New Zealand Bic Techno Launch

At 4pm on Thursday 3 December, at Takapuna Boating Club in Auckland there will be an event for the launch of the Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust’s (BOPSAT) six new Techno boards (thanks to Stuart Pedersen, Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy)

, which will support a new windsurfing development programme in Tauranga.

Takapuna Boating Club, Takapuna

Each of the boards will be named after one of New Zealand’s windsurfing legends, Tom Ashley, Barbara Kendall, Bruce Kendall, Scott Fenton, Santha Patel and Aaron McIntosh.


Takapuna Boating Club will be supporting the event with facilities and will be making it an "Open Day" at the club. Evelyn Johnson and Janet Watkins are behind a move to get a junior windsurfing program up and running at the club.

The event will start at 4pm at Takapuna Boating Club (39 The Strand, Takapuna) with the following scheduled:

* 4pm – Welcome and Register – Learn about Takapuna Boating Club’s new Windsurf programme
* 4.30pm – Official Launch of the BOPSAT Techno boards
* 5pm – Race of the Legends – Come meet Olympic Medallists Tom Ashley, Barbara Kendall and Bruce Kendall, also PWA World Champion Scott Fenton and watch them race!
* 5.30pm – Open Race – A fun race for anyone who wants to join in on their own board and race the legends
* 6.30pm – Free Sausages
* 7pm - Close

Yachting New Zealand are supporting and driving windsurfing in New Zealand with an aim to get more kids on to boards and get fleets sailing all around the country. This is an excellent opportunity to come and see what windsurfing is all about, how to learn the skills and meet the very best in the world.
